There are a lot of aphorisms in this book and they are grouped by topic. Each aphorism is both in Latin and in Russian with author mentioned where applicable. Authors are not only Ancient Roman, but also Ancient Greek, such as Plato, and European from the Middle Ages, such as Linnaeus. At the end of the book is an alphabetical list of authors with a brief information on each of them. One of the most frequently cited authors in this book is Cicero. Although there are a few typos in Latin originals, they are easily correctable using Google, and overall it had been really the great reading, and I had learned a lot of phrases in Latin from this book and use them when appropriate.
Some of my favourite aphorisms from this book are:
- "Cui cum paupertate bene convenit, dives est" by Seneca the Younger;
- "Commorandi natura deversorium nobis, non habitandi dedit" by Cicero;
- "Ebrietas est metropolis omnium vitiorum".
