This book has a number of faults. The binding is not strong enough for the heavy shiny paper used so my copy is now disintegrating. The variable colours used and the size and colour of the print means that some quotations are difficult to read. Also some quotations are not quite as foolish as the author indicates.
This having been said, I very much enjoyed some quotations in this work which can be purchased second-hand very, very cheaply. I thought that the section (pp. 40-51) entitled 20/20 hindsight gave food for thought. It includes quotations from famous scientists and inventors making statements about the future of their field which now appear to be spectacularly wrong. For example Albert Einstein is reported to have said ‘There is not the slightest indication that nuclear energy will ever be obtainable ...’. This should cause any scientist to be cautious when predicting future events. Simply never say never!
Some of the quotations are by the famous, but many are from ordinary people whose few ‘stupid words’ are caught in an instant of time, whilst the many sensible reasonable statements they would have made over a lifetime, are unrecorded and forgotten. Be careful what you say!!
