Nine research problem statements considered by the TRB Committee A3A08. Operational Effects of Geometrics, are presented. Each statement identifies the problem, describes the objective of the research, notes related work, and indicates the urgency for the study, and the projected costs. The principal users of the research findings are also noted. The implementation of the findings and possible effectiveness are discussed. The research problems are as follows: warrants for left-turn lanes; warrants and Guidelines for Continuous Exclusive Right-Turn Lanes; Relationship of Stopping Sight Distance to Clearance Times at Stop Sign Controlled Intersections; Coordinating Design, Operating, and Posted Speeds; Increasing Roadway Geometric Delineation when Reducing Highway Illumination; Operational or Geometric Countermeasures for Reducing Run-Off-Road Accidents on Rural Horizontal Curves; Analysis of Rural Highway Alignments Prone to Increased Accident Rates; Optimum Selection of Access Locations Along Major Arterials; and Raised Medians--A Poor Substitute for Good Access Control.
