Excellent artwork, insufficient world-building

This book has lovely artwork reminiscent of Kazu Kibuishi and Hayao Miyazaki. I can't praise the graphics highly enough.

The story, however, is a disjointed mess. This is the fault of incomplete character development and lazy world-building.
