Addresses the problems faced by gays and lesbians in finding their voice. Cites historical figures whose sexuality has been ignored in history and who could have been inspirational role models for young people today discovering their sexuality. Also tells the story of Kelli Peterson, a high school student in Salt Lake City, Utah, and her struggle to cope with being lesbian in a sometimes hostile society and to establish a Gay-Straight Alliance club at East High School in Salt Lake City.
